I can't believe this is at all a good idea.

He's basically used a CD Jewel case to make a window into his hard drive. And it does indeed look great, but his concerns with melting raise a flag with me, and then there's of course the risk of contaminating the HD case.

But it sure looks cool.

I'm not as considered about the melting as I am about people being able to see what is on my hard drive.

It is cool looking though. But, yeah, I think melting will be an issue.

I beleive that opening a hard drive outside of an ultra clean environment is also detrimental to it's stability. Any dust in there, no matter how small, has the potential to disrupt reading and writing...

Aside from melting the plastic he's probalby doomed the drive to constant data failure...

I agree with Gippy. That thing is sealed to keep it really really clean. Any bits of dust can result in a head crash.
