Quote:Abstract: This project hopes to take advantage of several volcanic features in the Blackfoot Lava Field (BLF) north of Soda Springs, ID to evaluate its geothermal resource potential. The BLF is a 200 km2 area of young basalt flows, rhyolite lava domes and very young normal faults that compose an 8000 m wide extensional region, in a pattern often associated with shallow intrusive igneous bodies. The main scope of this investigation is using field measurements to evaluate the depth, width and constrain the age of the proposed shallow igneous intrusion. This study will use similar methods to Holmes et.al. (2008) to evaluate extensional features on the Great Rift on the east Snake River Plain. Detailed field mapping and remotely sensed data will be used to generate an accurate measurement of surface extensional strain. This strain data will be used with computer modeling to evaluate the emplacement of such a body. Finally, the origin of these faults will be evaluated by using their timing, and if they do appear to originate from the intrusion of a dike, timing will be used to evaluate the age of the dike. This work will make up a large part of a MS thesis, and will be part of a much larger project evaluating the geothermal resource potential of the BLF. This work has major implications, as if this project does show presence of a young igneous body beneath the BLF, it could result in the development of a geothermal power plant in SE Idaho.

et al. not et.al.

Hopes to = will (saves a word!)

age of the dike = dike's age (two more words!) Although it doesn't read as smoothly

this sentence is a bit meh

Quote:Finally, the origin of these faults will be evaluated by using their timing, and if they do appear to originate from the intrusion of a dike, timing will be used to evaluate the age of the dike.

did you fix it?

MOAR IMPORTANTLY

Quote:Snarkstract: This project hopes to take advantage of Bedstuy's explosive diarrhea to evaluate its geothermal resource potential. The anal cavity is a 200 cm2 area of fecal flows, dingleberries and very young hemorrhoids that compose an 8 in wide extensional cavity, in a pattern often associated with shallow fashionistas. The main scope of this investigation is using field measurements to evaluate the depth, width, volumetric output, cleching power, gas production, and outward thrust capacity of the proposed anal cavity. This study will use similar methods to John Holmes et al. (1978) to evaluate extensional features and extension of a larger anal crack. Detailed field mapping and remotely sensed data will be used to generate an accurate measurement of surface extensional ass crackyness. This strain data will be used with computer modeling to evaluate the flaccidity of such a body. Finally, the origin of these gastronomical abnormalities will be evaluated by using their timing, and if they do appear to originate from the intrusion of an large, uncut Dominican, penetration timing will be used to evaluate the correlative or causal relationship to the output. This work will make up a large part of my spare time, and will be part of a much larger waste of time evaluating the geothermal resource of MoL's bloviations. This work has major implications, as if this project does show practicality of humanoid based geothermal power, it could result in the development of a geothermal power plant in San Francisco, West Hollywood, Pasadena, or the US Senate.

To:
This work has major implications; if this project identifies a young igneous body beneath the BLF, the development of a geothermal power plant in SE Idaho becomes feasible.

Ah, I didn't redo a word count.

Starting the last two sentences with "This work" was annoying and repetitive.

Revisions! 247 words.
Quote:This project hopes to take advantage of several volcanic features in the Blackfoot Lava Field (BLF) north of Soda Springs, ID to evaluate its geothermal resource potential. This area is characterized as a ‘hidden geothermal resource’, which is a geothermal area without characteristic surface manifestations, with geothermometry and drilling suggesting high subsurface temperatures. The BLF is a 200 km2 area of young basalt flows, rhyolite lava domes and very young normal faults that compose an 8000 m wide extensional region, in a pattern (graben) often associated with planar intrusive igneous bodies (dikes). The width of this graben suggests that a dike could be as shallow as 1 km, if such dike exists. With a possible young shallow dike, the BLF has major possibilities for geothermal development, and has been estimated to retain more than 2 x 1020 J of energy. The main scope of this investigation is to use field measurements to evaluate the depth, width and age constraints of the proposed shallow dike. Results from this project will make up a large part of a MS thesis, and will be part of a much larger project evaluating the geothermal resource potential of the BLF. This larger project has agreements with industry partners to develop the BLF if such work determines the field is viable to generate energy. This work has major implications for energy development in SE Idaho; the presence of a young intrusive body beneath the BLF could lead to geothermal development in the area.

I futzed with your intro

Quote:This project hopes to take advantage of will study / will examine several volcanic features in the Blackfoot Lava Field (BLF) north of Soda Springs, Idaho, to evaluate its geothermal resource potential. This area is considered a ‘hidden geothermal resource’ as it is without characteristic surface manifestations, but/however geothermometry and drilling suggest (or show evidence of ) high subsurface temperatures. The BLF is a 200 km2 area of young basalt flows, rhyolite lava domes and very young normal faults that compose an 8000 m wide extensional region in a pattern (graben) often associated with planar intrusive igneous bodies (dikes).

is the paren (stuff) a good idea? can you just describe it a graben pattern with dikes, or is that what you are looking for/to show?

I'm not really studying or examining the volcanic features, so I can't really say that I am.

I kinda have to do the parenthesis, because I am not supposed to use jargon that a general audience would not understand without first explaining. If I were writing to a group of geologists, then they all should know what a graben and a dike are. However, I cannot assume that for this, so I see the parenthesis as being the least wasteful way to do this. I'm not doing it for everything, but since I talk about the graben and dikes alot, I'm doing it for that.

I really think you ought to explain Bedstuy's anal cavity in terms of volume and not surface area.

A frank discussion of the extent of your erogenous zones falls more in the realm of "geography" than "closet case".
