the GT-R is arguably one of the best muscle cars made. You have to read auto reviews understanding the bias. Some guys like muscle push and understeer, some like tight and over steer, etc. When a sportscar enthusiast disses a muscle car, you have to take it with a grain of salt.

I recently watched a show where the Top Gear boiz compared the Z4, Boxster and S2000. Clearly each vehicle is a winner in the eyes of the right driver.

Me, I'm a Porsche guy [logical for someone who enjoys a Miata]. I care more about cornering, feel, response and aesthetics. I am fairly determined to become a Boxster owner in the next year.

Make sure it's an automatic, just to lend a little extra emphasis to your vagina.

I figured that if you were gonna buy a fake Porsche, you might as well go all out.

I honestly don't care for any of their lineup. There hasn't been a real Porsche since the 930.

I honestly find the opinion of a Z car person about Porsches to be non-applicable. You drive a highly tuned bathtub.

You like straight off the line performance, I like to slice through my corners.

:giggle:

It's funny you mention that, as the 240Z's first solid food was the 911, in almost every racing series across the USA.

I have driven a few AT Boxters, and they were quite slushy compared to the MT versions.
While them Porsches are quite fun to drive, they really don't do it for me in the looks department.

I'm sorry you even had to the gall to use a 240Z and a 911 in the same sentence. I now understand you "don't like" Porshes to mean "I cannot afford them, so meh."

What settings were you using? Have you driven a 2005 and on model?

Don't misunderstand me tho, if I can find the right Boxster S with the 6 speed, that's what I'll get.

But I find the paddle shift mode on the Tiptronic to be anything but "mushy," same for the sports tuned mode in AT. If I don't get an S model, I will likely try to get the Tiptronic.

It'll be a couple of years till I can afford the new PDK model.

is D a setting? :cringe:
I don't play around with customers' cars unless I really really need to.

I'm fairly sure I've driven all the boxter model years, and yes the AT has improved over time. I honestly don't remember when I drove a boxter last. I think a lot of our clients switched to fancy Mercedesess. Last Porsche I remember driving was a late 90's GT2. The clutch was touchy.

The Boxster of today is as, if not more powerful than the 911 I grew up with. Anyone dissing the Boxster because its not a 911is likely a white trash doting Buick owner from the bad areas of St Louis.

Just don't call it a Porsche, unless you're a trophy wife.

The fact that you own a Miata now tells me that you may actually be a trophy wife, though.

Hey look at the bright side, if I do go with the Boxster over the Z3 or the S2000, there is possibly as high as a 20% chance of ENGINE FAIL the way I drive.

So there is that to look forward to!

Why? Are they that unreliable? Also, how do you drive?

If you go with an S2000, make sure you get a 2002 or 2003 model (first generation, 2.0L, glass rear window). 9000RPM red-line FTW!

Actually, the high redline is part of what I don't like about the S2000 - however, they apparently have not had ANY engine failures due to rev abuse. Other parts have failed, but just not the engine afaik.

My point being, to make it scream will take a lot of effort. I can make my Miata squeal at any moment. HAHA

Yeah, there are some manufacturing quirks with some of the parts that Porsche outsourced. Once they identified the issue they instituted some more checks, but there are at least 2 known points of failure with the engine. So I may try to get a CPO or some sort of warranty, but it seems on the ones that will fail, fail before they hit 30K. Failure rates seem to go down once they get over 40K, depending on mi per year.

Goddamnit, no sooner do I get the bucket back together...

Some shithead hopped up on painkillers made my 240Z the meat in a station wagon sandwich. The bumpers are all fucked up, the back is smashed in, and the front is bent down into the tires.

holy shit no way? dude that sucks.

I thought of you twice on my little road trip yesterday. First, its was a fancy 240Z named "Von's Z" in brassy green. Then later, a red 300Z with gold rims made a radical and unsignaled 3 lane change on the 101.

:(

Did the shithead have insurance [I hate to ask]?

Yes, the shithead has insurance.

I do not look forward to the protracted battle with insurance over the coming weeks.

If it's totalled out (which seems likely), I'll probably just get a G35 coupe. There's no 240Z in comparable condition in New Mexico.

the overspray is on the 300, not the squished 240. I'm not aware of overspray on the yellow car.

Sorry to hear it, Jeh. That car is too sweet. At least you have a lot of photos of it to help with the insurance battle.

wb: I'm not taking pictures of my shame. I *did* find another '71 240Z with shit interior for sale for $2500. I'm going to go check it out this weekend. If the shell is in good shape, I'll take the ins. co's money, buy the car back, and swap my (fucking MINT) interior, engine, tranny, and suspension into the other shell.

Now, back to big bastard.

These pictures make me giggle:

It would be in machine shop jail already, save for this:

Whether as a result of heat or simply an assembler with the strength of an ape, the head bolts are in there really tightly. After about 2 minutes of my full weight on a 5' breaker bar, the allen driver snapped right in half. Good thing it's a Craftsman,

Old vs. New:

Those GT2860R's are a lot bigger than the T22s they're replacing.

Just spent four hours putting the engine back into the 'stang, and I am only about 50/50 sure that I got it in right. Something tells me that going with the new fancy adjustable motor mounts might have been a mistake. Those alone gave me a two or so hour fight, and I'm just not sure that the engine is sitting straight. I didn't even put the headers in yet, and I'm not sure if I'll be able to do that without lifting the engine back up.
:bang:

Just got home. Need to take a shower. Ordered some chinese food. Ur all welcome to come over.
